    Description

    Belgian Original 1940's Re-Release Movie Poster -
    Mr. Wong In Chinatown
    (1939),
Boris Karloff, Marjorie Reynolds, Grant Withers, Lotus Long, William Nigh, Poverty Row Studio, Asian Detective
Here is a very nice original Belgian movie poster from the 1st re-release of William Nigh's detective mystery film,
    Mr. Wong In Chinatown
. This was the 3rd in a series of five films featuring the Asian San Francisco detective James Lee Wong, portrayed by Boris Karloff. From the early Thirties through the mid Forties the Asian detective/private eye movie became a popular sub-genre in low budget American films. Karloff followed in the footsteps of many non-Asian actors like Warner Oland, Sidney Toler, Roland Young and Peter Lorre portraying Chinese and Japanese detectives. . This poster is from the first re-release of the
movie in Belgium shortly after the end of the war in Europe (probably in 1947 or 1948). It features duo-tone artwork with the face of Mr. Wong tellingly being highlighted in yellow.
